You may be wondering... where is the best place to learn martial arts in Wollongong?

There are many criteria to look at when selecting a martial arts school, location is just one of them, other things to consider are...

What style of martial art should you learn?

  • There is a lot to choose from: traditional vs modern vs self-defence vs hybrid vs combat sport.

  • Do some research before choosing and if you are still undecided, go that interest you see if you like the centre, the instructor(s) and people.

  • Note, they will try to sign you up if you visit them - say you are checking out several before you decide, if you feel pressured, go elsewhere.

What are your goals that you want from martial arts?

  • High - medium - low intensity?

  • Longevity and wellbeing that enable you to continue training your whole life

  • Keeps your interest and continually being challenged mentally and physically

  • Focus on upper body like boxing, lower body and kicking like tae kwon do, or both like Shaolin kung fu

  • Ground work like wrestling and jujitsu

  • Complex, refined arts like Aikido or Wing Chun.

  • Vast curriculum like Shaolin Kung Fu, including weapons, joint locks and throws

  • Immediate close combat self-defence like Krav Maga

  • Sport combat fighting like MMA or Muay Thai

  • Do you want full contact sparring, light or no sparring? At Shaolin Warrior Martial Arts we do not promote full contact sparring due to the high potential of head trauma even with headgear.

When can I train?

  • We are a full-time studio/gym and do personal training sessions outside the group class times.

What if I want to train privately or outside group class times?

How big are your group classes?

  • The maximum number of students in our classes are 10 people.

What's the experience of your instructor, shifu, sensei?
