A Different Path to Progess

Neurological Movement & Functional Strength

Supporting NDIS participants to break through plateaus and reclaim quality of life through the intersection of ancient tradition and modern neuroplasticity.

When "Maintenance" Isn't Enough.

Are you or your loved one feeling stuck? We often meet participants and carers who are:

  • Frustrated by a lack of progress in traditional clinical settings.

  • Exhausted by "clinical fatigue"—too many white walls and sterile gyms.

  • Told their symptoms are "permanent" or "in their head."

  • Struggling with the "physical noise" of chronic pain, spasticity, or anxiety.

At Shaolin Warrior Martial Arts, we don’t see a diagnosis. We see a Warrior waiting to be empowered.

We Don’t Replace Your Doctors.
We Power Your Plan.

We believe in a multi-disciplinary approach. Our program is designed to be the "missing link" in your NDIS journey.

  • A Complementary Approach: We work alongside your Physio, OT, and Psychologist to bridge the gap between clinical exercises and real-world functional movement.

  • The "Warrior" Mindset: We move participants away from the "patient" identity, building confidence, discipline, and agency.

  • Commitment to the Work: We don't promise overnight miracles or specific medical cures. We promise that if you are willing to show up and do the work, we will give you our absolute best to help you reach your goals.

How We Target the Nervous System

We use traditional Chinese modalities of Qigong, Tai Chi, and Functional Shaolin Movement, to achieve modern clinical outcomes:

  • Neuroplasticity & Motor Retraining: Using tactile mirroring and proprioceptive feedback to build new neural pathways, helping to bypass "jerky" or spastic muscle signals (Cerebral Palsy/FND).

  • Autonomic Regulation: Utilizing specific breathwork to calm the nervous system, reducing the "fight or flight" response associated with PTSD and Chronic Anxiety.

  • Joint Efficiency & Stability: Moving away from "locking" joints for stability and instead building deep functional strength and muscle efficiency (IBM/Balance Disorders).

3 Real Journeys

Case Study 1: Reclaiming Structural Freedom (IBM)

Participant: Scott G.

Focus: Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM), Balance & Stability

  • The Challenge: Scott initially struggled with significant instability, unable to stand on one leg and relying on "locking" his knee joints to remain upright.

  • The Approach: Using Tai Chi to move away from joint-locking and toward functional muscle efficiency.

  • The Progress: Scott has now completed three levels of Tai Chi, including advanced balancing with a straight-leg extension.

  • The Quality of Life Win: Beyond the studio, Scott’s increased physical confidence allowed him to navigate international travel—a goal that previously felt out of reach.

Case Study 2: Mastering the Nervous System (FND & PTSD)

Participant: Arielle S.

Focus: TBI, FND, PTSD, and PNES (Seizures)

  • The Challenge: Arielle arrived at the studio using a walker, experiencing up to 8 atonic (collapse) seizures per day, chronic migraines, and high levels of nervous system up-regulation (anger/anxiety).

  • The Approach: We focused on predictive breathwork and energy management techniques to help Arielle "read" her body’s signals before a seizure onset.

  • The Progress: Arielle saw a 90% reduction in seizure intensity and a dramatic frequency drop—from 8 per day to just one every 7–14 days. She transitioned from a walker to standing upright, now only occasionally requiring a walking stick.

  • The Quality of Life Win: With fewer migraines and better emotional regulation, Arielle reports feeling happier, more confident, and in control of her body’s responses.

Case Study 3: Rewiring for a Pain-Free Life (Cerebral Palsy)

Participant: Monique S.

Focus: Cerebral Palsy, Sight Impairment, Chronic Pain & Spasticity

  • The Challenge: Monique lived with a complex combination of sight impairment and constant, debilitating chronic pain in her ankle and foot due to spasticity and deformity. This physical "noise" resulted in high anxiety, jerky movements, and a significant loss of stability.

  • The Approach: We utilized Tai Chi as a specialized neurological intervention. By providing direct proprioceptive feedback through tactile mirroring and touch, we helped Monique’s brain "feel" the correct alignment. This consistent sensory input leverages neuroplasticity to retrain motor patterns, effectively bypassing the "glitchy" spastic signals that were causing her distress.

  • The Progress: This "rerouting" of the brain-to-muscle connection has allowed Monique to replace involuntary tremors with fluid, intentional movement. Most importantly, the constant chronic pain that dominated her daily life has now mostly gone.

  • The Quality of Life Win: Monique has moved from a state of constant physical pain and anxiety to a place of calm, controlled, and confident movement. Being mostly pain-free has unlocked a new level of freedom in her daily life.

Mind, Body and Spirit

Few martial arts can claim their foundation is development of mind, body and spirit.

Shaolin Martial Arts is a truely holistic martial art - developed first and foremost for the health and wellbeing of Shaolin Monks, improving their meditation and focus under the principles of Chan (Zen) Buddhism, Taoism and Qi (Chi - internal life force) with the added benefit of self-defence.
